Essential Oils for Healing Your Body or Changing a Reaction

Did you know you can use essential oils for healing your body or changing a reaction?

Since I am familiar with Young Living Essential Oils, and know that they are therapeutic grade essential oils I’m going to reference a few of their oils today in this blog.

You can use any comparable blend or singles that seems to work for you.

Here are some tips:  make sure you are careful when handling the oils to not get your hands near your eyes after applying them.

If you do have a red reaction or burning sensation with one of the “hot” oils (clove, cinnamon, peppermint, etc.)  dilute it with olive oil or Young Livings V6.

Some oils make you photosensitive so you wouldn’t want to go out in the sun after applying them.  Be aware of the properties of the oils you choose to use. Use them carefully and sparingly at first to see how your body reacts.

Here are some of my favorite oils and a few of their basic uses.

Thieves Oil:  This is one of those remedies to always have on hand.   I suggest using this if you have a sore throat.  You can put one drop directly on your tongue and it helps kick the cold out in a much shorter period of time, decrease the sore throat pain instantly, or you may just not get a cold at all.  I also suggest diluting it with olive oil and putting it directly on your glands if they are swollen right before you get a cold.  If there is a bug bite I suggest putting it directly on a bug bite, stops the itch and the oil is antimicrobial antiviral.  Not on the face as it has clove oil in it which would burn.  Don’t get it on your lips either.  Not a fun experience.

Peppermint Oil:  is a hot oil as well and needs to be diluted.  Careful to not get it anywhere near the eyes.  Use it for headaches or even a fever.  I’ve used it on my forehead (be very careful as this is way too close to the eyes) but it sure worked when running a headache with a fever.  Use it on the base of the skull at the back of the head, feels great on a headache.

Di-Gize:  is an oil to use to aid digestion if you ate something that didn’t agree with you or your stomach was aggravated.   Apply it directly to your stomach region.

Orange Oil:  is uplifting to your mood .  Try  diffusing  it within your home or in the car (wipe on air vents on car trips).

Peace and Calming Oil: is great to place on the air vents in a car when traveling a long distance and the children or adults are getting agitated on a long ride.

Frankincense Oil: is a great oil to keep around for a variety of applications.  I like it for inducing a feeling of mental peace, relaxation, satisfaction and spirituality. It also awakens insight, helps you to go within dispersing  anxiety, anger and stress. It can be used diluted on wounds for antiseptic properties.  You  can use this on bug bites as it is known to have an anti-inflammatory effect, but I like the affects of Thieves better.  Studies have been done which show it promotes regeneration of healthy cells and also keeps the existing cells and tissues healthy.

Lavender Oil:  Lavender is great for the soothing effect it has. Scent memory is very powerful and if used at bedtime when you are relaxing and preparing for sleep you can train a relaxation response to the oil.  Take it with you on the airplane or traveling and it will help re-trigger that response when traveling.  It relaxes the body as well as it can be used to decrease the scarring effects of minor burns and also has antiseptic properties.

Hope you enjoy experimenting with essential oils.

  1. Very interesting info about essential oils, some of these I'd never heard of, like Thieves. I haven't experimented much with these yet, but would like to do so. I did find that lavender can be used as a delightful insect repellent with no stinky chemicals. There's a lavender farm in my area and I bought their lavender spray just prior to a camping trip - no bites!

    1. Love the tip CrossCreations. Thanks for sharing. Lavender is one of the most incredible oils. There is a story of a man that burns his hands in a lab accident and plunges them into a bucket of lavender oil. No scars, no burns.

Anyway, each oil has multiple uses and this isn't even scratching the surface of each oils multiple qualities.
